since I didn't read the book, i thought the movie was amazing. I think I need to go buy it! except I hate reading books after movies but it seems that since tehre is so much praise for the book it wouldnt hurt :)
enc: yes, the movie is well done I really like the music. For me the type-writing machine detail is incredible. I love the locations too. Nice sceneries. But the book is more than Briony's crime and that gets lost in the movie.

I prefer the book as well, although I loved the film, despite its flaws. I agree that Keira wasn't that outstanding... but McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan were great. Not to mention Romola Garai. Even Redgrave by the end made a big impression on me.
