sharing stories

Lately, Grandma, I call her Abuela Sauce, has been telling me stories. About her life, her work and the family. Actually we had a great time watching some pictures. She has been a story teller since I can remember, however, now I'm determined to pay real attention and to keep her words deep in my memory. I got the impression that it would be the last time that I'm going to hear them. Not because she's dying but because she's forgetting. I hope that next year we might have good moments, good memories to share.

I did it again

So, as if I had nothing to do, I decided to organize a marathon of "The OC", the third season. A friend offered herself so we watched, at her place, 13 episodes in a row. But as it was getting late, we had to stop it because I had to leave and go home. Yesterday, I finished all the episodes. However, instead of being tired of being in front of the t.v, now I want to watch "The Tudors" but maybe until next year.

getting in touch: Nadine Gordimer

Last month, on November 19, Nadine Gordimer, nobel prize winner, visited my faculty. She came to Mexico as part of Carlos Fuentes' celebrations. Fuentes is a succesful Mexican writer. The festivities lasted about a month. Well, Gordimer came to the faculty because she wanted to chat with us, literature students, to know what's in our minds.
The interview was great. I liked the way she answered. I must say that I've just read one of her books, so I can't give you my opinion about her work. However, she seems a very kind person, interested in the social problems that affect her country and the world in general. What I liked the most is that she didn't present herself as a victim of the regime, instead, she seems aware of her own place and tries to help from that position.

She answered all our questions.


I was afraid that I might not like her as a person, you know, there are amazing writers who know how to work with words marvelously but they are horrible inside. Luckily, Gordimer was brilliant, the things ended up better than what I expected.

news: I'm back

Weee, I got it!!!!!
Last week I had the chance to buy The Killers' latest album, Day & Age. I'm still listening to it, deciding whether I love it or not. What I can certainly tell you is that I love Brandon Flowers and I'm so happy that he no longer has a mustache :D

On the other hand, Oasis concert was fantastic. It was my first time and was better than what I expected. Although the auditorium and my place weren't perfect I enjoyed it. Besides, the company was great. They didn't sing Stop Crying your Heart Out but I got the chance to listen to Don't Look Back in Anger and many others that I love. Liam sang Songbird in the most sweetest way, love him. Wonderwall was the most sung by the audience, such a classic! I bought a t-shirt. I'll show it later.

I hope you're getting ready for the festivities that are coming. I've been involved in so many things that I abandoned the bloggersphere, but I'm back, I swear.

By the way, today I went to the movies and watched Blindness, I highly recommend it. I haven't read the book so I can't say anything about that.

Lately, I've been into a lot of things. First I had to prepare my paper for a national encounter of literature students. Personally, I think I did a good job. Besides, to meet all these guys and to know what they are up to is really interesting and enriching. Also,I'm editing a book. I feel important and I must confess that I'm enjoying the proyect. And I've been having dates, lovely dates. I must say that I haven't worked hard on my thesis lately but I will, I promise.

When I was in high school a friend of mine tried to get me involved in Manga world. But he failed. Now, five years later I'm getting interested. Part of the attraction is the fact that I had to learn how to read them, you know, I'm used to words but not images. Now things are under control, and I'm finding them interesting and relaxing, ha. So, apart from reading things for my thesis, now I'm into my third collection of Manga stories. It is called Monster and it is about a doctor who saved a boy and now he's trying to prevent him for commiting crimes...it's getting interesting.

Mona and the house

While I was editing some photos I noticed how Mona has become the queen of the house. Here some picture that exemplify this.

But I must confess that she has been having a bad time. I took her to the vet two times this week and I had to left her alone a whole afternoon because I went to a family event. She's angry with me. My dear!!

So, Oasis's coming next November and it seems that I'm finally going to be able to attend to their show. I already got the tickets but something can happen in the way: November seems so far. Oh my God, I'm so delighted!!!! A couple of weeks ago I discovered a new store, full of bags of all seizes and colors. And there, I found this lovely bag that I've been using lately. It is perfect for school, and it is furry and blue and matchy. I love it.

Yesterday I bought Placebo's cd, Black Market Music, so now I can tell that my collection is complete. I must say that I am not as fan as I used to be but I'm happy to see all my cds together, one next to the other. In fact, while I was watching them I realize that that was the music I used to listen to 5 years ago, yes, 5 years ago I was super fan. Actually that fascination lasted a while, I mean, I still like them but not as before. I couldn't help but thinking in how time goes by, I'm not old-- maybe I'm just changing...

Today is my Mom's birthday. We had an amazing girly day. First we had breakfast and then we watched a movie. Then we went shopping, an activity that we find amusing, haha. We found a couple of nice skirts and some blouses. Let me tell you that we have a good taste together, haha. Afterwards we looked for a pair of shoes. We found a green pair that matches one of her new blouses. And there's more... we went to a beauty salon and had our hair and nails done. Now, we're resting after such a long day. Unfortunately, tomorrow we have to go back to work but totally stylish!

Lately, I've noticed that it takes me more time to decide what to wear. In contrast to the beginning of this year now I spend an extra half an hour. So, I was wondering the reason of this. First it was because I wanted to be experimental. Then, I think it was because I was trying more options before getting the perfect outfit of the day. But now, I think it is because of the quantity of clothes. I'm getting the impresion that the quantity of clothes is proportional to the feeling of not knowing what to wear. Simply because the possibilities increase.
Moreover, there are other situations that influence the decision, for instance, the mood of the day, the weather, the things you are going to do that day, the company and so on.

Getting dressed is so complicated.

As I noticed that I had some extra money I decided to spent it in clothes. so I went to see what sales had to me but it turn out to be nothing. I couldn't fine a single thing that I actually like or fit me. I felt disappointed, i was in a shopping mood :(

However, that event did not let me down. I bought Norah Jones' album Come Away with Me. It turn out to be better than a consolation buy. Actually the cd is quiet good. I know this album was realeased in 2002 but I haven't had the chance to buy it, but now it is in my hands. Her voice is amazing and the rhythm are so calm that are perfect or my actual mood. At the moment my favorite songs are "Don't Know Why" and "Come Away with Me". Now, I'm planning to buy a couple of cds that I've been wanting for some time.

About the room, I love the color. It is yellow like a sunflower. Love it, love it.

On Atonement

I finally watched Atonement and I couldn't help myself from prefering the book. The movie is beautiful but the novel is wonderfully written.

Lovely story, please read it.

ps. Knightey's performance did not convince me whereas McAvoy's impressed me.

free time

School is so over now. I've decided to take one week off and then start to work on my diploma thesis..that makes me feel so old. In the midtime, I've been living a life away from the computer. You have to undertand that for three weeks I was stuck in my house, in front of the computer, writing essays. That life is over... I guess I'll miss it.

So this time, I've been watching movies, one of my fab was Little Miss Sunshine-- so interesting. I, also, watched Batman Begins. I liked it.. basically how it deals with the figure of the hero. They seemed more interested in presenting us how Batman's identity is constructed instead if him just beating the bad guys.. let's see what happens with The Dark Knight. It called my attention that two of the Batman girls have become wives to Tom Cruise..is Maggie Gyllenhaal the next one?

Also, I went to see Salvador Dali's exhibition.. I'm not entirely sure if it is a good idea to display fragments of the exhibition in different parts of the city. I guess more people manage to see it but they don't see it complete, which is a shame. But well, I manage to see everything: what was in downtown and the part out and inside the museum. Here, one of my fab pieces.

Besides, I've been meeting with old and new friends..the gossip has been really good. Also, I've been able to do some serious shopping, I'll show you my purchases later. Now I'm watching Nana. Melisa, so kindly lend me the dvd... I love their voices and the songs.

Mona had a quiet birthday. She simply ate a lot of her favorite things. We'll go to her favorite park when the wheather gets better; for instance, today has been rainning the whole day.

One of my favorite short-stories in the world was published for the first time 30 years ago. I can't believe how time goes. It is called "Girl" and was written by Jamaica Kincaid. I love it because the very first time I read it, I wasn't sure of what I read. It is not complicated, it's unusual.. and lovely.
